Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely gotten through winter in Pacheco just yet. Mother Nature has provided us with a few nice days, but she’s always prepared to remind us that she’s in full control. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call a repairman out out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall can bury your air conditioner in the snow, hindering its performance when the temperatures begin to warm up for the season. Not to mention it can inhibit a high-efficiency system from operating as such. The situation could become an even bigger problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to help your air conditioner operate as it should even though snow has fallen or could fall in the upcoming days and weeks.

  1. Ensure you have a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Check the area frequently to ensure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that could have piled up throughout the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, putting a cover over your air conditioner might end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner could be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, causing damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Pacheco will more than likely go up and down over the last few days of cold weather, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can alter the performance of your air conditioner. At Clean Air HVAC in Pacheco, we are always available to take a look at any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re related to air conditioner service or buying a new system.
