Why you should replace your air filter this winter12/13/2016 We emphasize preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment constantly, but this doesn’t simply mean annual tune-ups – it also involves checking your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system running smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! Now is the ideal time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and heat is on the horizon. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as: Increasing the life and efficiency of your system A definite way to instigate a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that is built up on your filter can cause your whole system to work harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it hamper the performance of your system, but it can increase your energy costs and cause your system to overheat. Improving indoor air quality The reason for an air filter is that it catches contaminants through your air system before it flows into your residence. The older a filter gets, the less capable it is in catching things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your home, particularly if someone in your house suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you don’t want them moving in your home. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season. Check your system or current air filter provider for suggestions on how regularly you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Clean Air HVAC, we suggest an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the right time to replace your air filter?
